PSJA Memorial Early College High School Welding Team Earns State Superior Award at 2025 SkillsUSA Texas Competition

ALAMO – Demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship, skill, and professionalism, the PSJA Memorial Early College High School (ECHS) Welding Team earned the State Superior Award at the 2025 SkillsUSA Texas State Leadership and Skills Conference, held April 2-5 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX.

This recognition highlights the team's dedication to excellence in welding and technical education, placing them among the top student competitors in the state. SkillsUSA is a nationally recognized organization that empowers students to become world-class workers and leaders through skills-based competitions in fields such as manufacturing, engineering, and construction.

Throughout the multi-day competition, students showcased their welding abilities and technical knowledge while competing against peers from across Texas. The State Superior Award is presented to teams that demonstrate the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and technical skill.

“It’s a great feeling being able to see my students as they find out what the judges rate them. The excitement on their faces is confirmation of the hard work they put into their project, especially at the state level,” said PSJA Memorial Welding Instructor Ramiro Meza. “It is a tremendous honor and privilege to be these students’ welding teacher. It makes me very proud to see them grow and master a trade like welding.”

Through programs like Welding and participation in SkillsUSA, PSJA ISD continues to offer students hands-on learning experiences that open doors to high-wage, high-skill careers.
